Karla Hooten, MSAE President, (MS Association of Broadcasters) opened the meeting.  Amy Wilson, Executive Diretory MSAE, made announcements and recognized the retirement of  Larry Houchins, (The MS Bar) whose face and influence have been with MSAE from its organization.  When Larry  joined MSAE, meetings were held at the Ramada Inn and members filled one table.  Today’s meeting had over 72 members in attendance, introduced new members and filled nine tables.

Thank you Larry for your continued service throughout the years with hope for a prosperous retirement.

MSAE members filled The Hilton Jackson Penthouse conference room for April 12, 2017 Lunch & Learn where a panel of five distinquished University and College Directors and Coordinators, representing  Mississippi State University, The University of Mississippi and Millsaps College, discussed: “Will Hiring an Intern Work for Me?”

The panel spoke individually yet with a collective message that hiring an intern has great value for the intern and for the association.  Interns, or Leaders of tomorrow, gain practical hands on experience and build confidence while helping Associations during busy season, when staff is short, or on research projects.  Hiring an Intern also gives an opportunity for a business to evaluate the value of hiring as a full time employee.  They may also reap the benefit of having (generally) a technical savy college student to share knowledge on latest programs and applications.

The group asked questions such as,
What are the Intern payment expectations?
Are there limitations to number of hours an Intern could work during a week?

Questions lead to extended conversation and input from all members of the panel and the MSAE group.

Jim Taylor uses Facebook, Ole Miss Hospitality Alumni and Student Group, where Alumni share job openings and students can request internships.

Tunica CVB sponsored the Luncheon and give aways, both Tuesday night at the Old Capitol Inn, Rooftop Terrrace and a Tunica Blues overnight package, won by Ellen Sullivan on Wednesday.  Tunica CVB's Bill Canter, Director of Sales, Mary Catherine Webb, Sales Manager & Kim Thomas Gleason, Properties Regional Sales Manager made introductions at the start of the luncheon.

Thank you also to Deirdre McGowan, MS Water Resources Association, and Insight, Ltd. for the twenty five dollar Amazon gift card donation won by Samantha Hill of the Mississippi Municipal League.  Other give-a-ways were a free Lunch and Learn won by Linda Ross Aldy, MS Optometric Association, and Free Registration to the MSAE Spring Seminar, given to Charles Elliot, MS Credit Union Association.
